Italy - Piedmont

Piedmont is a region in northwestern Italy, bordering Switzerland and France. This region faces the Alpine mountain range and is surrounded by it on three sides.
Piedmont boasts a rich biodiversity; in addition to mountains like Monte Rosa, you can find picturesque valleys such as Val di Susa and Val d'Ossola. A different landscape is offered by the areas of Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato: a succession of hills covered in vineyards, dotted with villages and castles.
A top tourist destination is the 'Lake District,' with Lake Maggiore, Stresa, and the Borromean Islands: enchanting landscapes hosting ancient villas surrounded by English-style gardens.
In addition to its natural beauty, the cities are undoubtedly attractions in Piedmont, such as the former Italian capital, Turin, with its history and remarkable artistic heritage, as well as other cities and various historic centers, including Cherasco, Alba, and Asti.
The Convention for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Heritage, adopted by UNESCO in 1972, allows nominated properties to be inscribed on the World Heritage List as 'cultural heritage,' 'natural heritage,' mixed cultural and natural sites.
Piedmont boasts 5 sites:
1. The Savoy Residences
2. The Sacred Mountains of Piedmont and Lombardy
3. Prehistoric Pile dwellings around the Alps
4. The Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont: Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato
5. Ivrea, an Industrial City of the 20th Century.
