Cirò Marina

It is a city located on the Ionian coast of Calabria, in the province of Crotone and has a millenary history that dates back to the Magna Graecia era, when the Greek colony of Krimisa was founded, which probably stood right where Cirò Marina is today.
In Roman times, the city became an important commercial and agricultural thanks to the fertility of the surrounding land. Over the centuries, the city underwent various dominations, passing under Byzantine, Norman, Swabian and Aragonese control.
The beaches of Cirò Marina are among the most beautiful in Calabria, thanks to their golden sand and crystalline sea. The main beach of Cirò Marina extends for about 8 km, from the tourist port to the mouth of the Neto river. Here you can practice many water activities such as windsurfing, kitesurfing and diving. Other very beautiful beaches are Punta Alice beach, which is located south of the center and offers crystal clear sea and a breathtaking panoramic view of the coast.
The beach of Torre Melissa is instead located in the north and offers a clear sea and a wide and equipped beach. In addition to the beaches, Cirò Marina is also very popular the wine cellars where the fine Cirò and Melissa wines are made.


Catanzaro is the capital of the province of Catanzaro. The city has a millenary history dating back to the Magna Graecia era, when the Greek colony of Skilletion was founded. In Roman times, the city became an important commercial center thanks to its strategic position. Over the centuries, it also underwent various dominations.
Catanzaro is really famous for its Norman-Swabian Castle which is located on the hill of the historic center, the castle was built in the 9th century by the Byzantines and later enlarged by the Normans and the Swabians. Today it houses the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Rural Life.
The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta was built in the XIII century in Romanesque style, and is one of the most important monuments of the city. Inside you can admire the works of the Calabrian painter Mattia Preti.
