Monti Sibillini

between nature and man

The Parco nazionale dei Monti sibillini, dominated by Monte Vettore (2476 metres above sea level), conveys a harmonious relationship between nature and man, culture and environment. It is a land of legends associated with particularly magical places (such as the Grotta della sibilla, the cave that once housed a priest able to predict the future), but above all of possibilities to explore the most beautiful ridges and peaks of the sibillini on foot. A truly unmissable path travels from Foce di Montemonaco to Lake Pilato, the “lake with glasses”, so-called because it features two adjacent pools of water, home to a unique and protected species of crustacean.
Montefortino and Amandola are both hilltop villages on the slopes of the Monti Sibillini and make perfect starting points for a lot of excursions.
Sarnano is a place where you can breathe in the air of the Monti Sibillini, follow the footsteps of St Francis, stroll around one of the best kept mediaeval villages in the Marche and savour the numerous gastronomic specialities, particularly cold meats and cheeses.
