a wonderful Greek theatre

Taormina, one of the most beautiful towns in Sicily, stretches from the terrace of Monte Tauro along the coast from Capo Sant'Andrea to Capo Taormina, situated between the Ionian Sea with its stunning beaches and the Pelorian Mountains to the north and west.
Taormina has become famous for its Dolce Vita and beautiful nature, cherished by renowned writers and artists like Goethe and Maupassant, and has become a significant tourist destination.
The theater dates back to the Hellenistic period and was built by the Greek Tauromenitans. During Roman times, the theater was expanded and used for gladiator contests under Emperor Augustus (31 BC - 14 AD).
Besides the theater in Syracuse, it is the largest Greek theater in Sicily and hosts various cultural events annually. Goethe visited the theater in 1787 and was captivated by it.
