Aveiro district

The Portugese Venice

A stop not to be missed in the Portugal tour is definitely Aveiro, still little known to mass tourism nestled between the sea and the lagoon (ria) crossed by canals and furrowed by colourful typical boats called moliceiros originally used for the collection of algae. In this village also known as Portuguese Venice, you can admire several buildings in art nouveau style important for the identity of the city. Another possible attraction is the picturesque fish market which is located in the square of the same name Praça do Peixe where pitch captured during the note is sold. Not far from the center we find the São Jacinto nature reserve, a natural oasis between the sea and the lagoon, where thanks to wooden walkways it is possible to walk and admire without spoiling the surrounding habitat in any way. Do not forget that Aveiro overlooks the ocean, and therefore you can also enjoy some relaxation by the sea. The most beautiful beaches of Aveiro are found in Costa Nova, characterized by its coloured striped wooden boxes and then a stop at Praia de Barra where it is possible to admire the tallest lighthouse in Portugal.
