The Royal Gift

This wonderful village was a gift for Queen Isabel from King Dionysus I, one of the most beautiful in Portugal with a romantic old town perched atop a hill where a medieval castle dominates. To get to the top, you go through a labyrinth of cobbled streets and small houses with particular white roofs with coloured doors and Manueline-style decorations. The city walls are certainly the main tourist attraction of this village, during the walk you can visit interesting churches or the Municipal Museum housed in an eighteenth-century building. If you happen to go to Portugal between late April and early May do not miss the Chocolate Festival held in Óbidos, I recommend!
