Alghero, Stintino and Castelsardo

beautiful beaches, excellent seafood, winery...welcome in Sardinia!

Trekking in Stintino
The pretty village of Stintino, an old fishing village, is rich in natural beauty and history. Among the main attractions are: The parish church of ancient foundation, which preserves valuable works of art; golden beaches and crystal clear waters, which are among the most beautiful in all of Sardinia. In Stintino activities such as trekking and cycling are becoming increasingly popular. In spring the island offers wonderful greenery and bright flowers that radically change in summer.

Alghero shows today traces of its Catalan past; it has an evocative historical centre and gorgeous nearby beaches. Known as the "Little Barcelona", Alghero is a modern city even though it retains the strong cultural and historical tradition. The Spanish influence can be seen walking through the streets full of details of the Aragonese conquerors and by the same people who delight in Spanish accents, or by signs showing directions in both Italian and Catalan (often only in Catalan!).

Castelsardo is a picturesque town situated on the sea, and the sea has marked its history. Castelsardo has been used as a defensive stronghold and strategic point of control. The old town still retains its medieval fortress structure, with massive ramparts, steep stairs and narrow streets. You must go on top of the plateau rises the fortress of the Doria Castle that is nowadays the Museum of Mediterranean. A short distance from the castle, overlooking the sea, here the Cathedral of St. Anthony, from fourteenth century, with its tall bell tower covered with colourful majolica tiles.
