The land of the pesto

Genova (Genoa), capital of Liguria, is an important ancient port city rich in history and gastronomy. A large part of the historical center, the Strade Nuove (via Garibaldi, via Cairoli and via Balbi) together with the Palazzi dei Rolli (a group of palaces), is part of the UNESCO world heritage list. The Cattedrale di San Lorenzo is the main cathedral of the city.

Walking through the colorful alleys and squares you will encounter many facades decorated with stucco and frescoes. At the Porto Antico (Old Port) you can admire the biggest Acquarium of Italy and also the second largest acquarium in Europe.

Genoa is not only a city, but also one of the four provinces of Liguria. The province is famous for its pesto Genovese and other delicious products like the focaccia Genovese and focaccia di Recco (focaccia filled with a special cheese from Recco). In the village of Pra' they have the best basil DOP. Nearby you will also find beautiful villages such as Camogli and Portofino.
