The city of the Popes

Viterbo is a town with a stone core, very open to travelers who like to be enchanted by medieval realms. City rich in art and culture, offering visitors a glimpse full of charm: from medieval buildings to Renaissance palaces, from Romanesque churches to the archaeological sites.

Viterbo for centuries is defined as the city of the Popes, in memory of the time when the papal seat was moved precisely in this city that still bears the traces of that splendor.
The "City of the Popes", the capital of ancient Etruscan origin and of great historical traditions, has a monumental structure that belongs to the most important of Lazio: aristocratic palaces, monuments full of art of great interest, evocative medieval neighborhoods, churches and monasteries of different ages, slender towers and elegant fountains of granite (the typical stone construction of Viterbo).

Viterbo is located in a predominantly thermal area. The thermal baths, used in the Middle Ages and visited by popes and celebrities, provide therapeutic care, but also opportunity for recreation and relaxation.

Must see places are the Papal Palace, the Duomo Romanico di San Lorenzo (home of the coronation of up to seven popes), the San Pellegrino (residential center of the medieval Viterbo), Piano Scarano (one of the oldest districts of the city once inhabited mainly by farmers and craftsmen). Through the streets of the center are the Romanesque churches such as Santa Maria Nuova (one of the oldest of Viterbo) San Sisto and many others to admire.
