Lecce

Lecce is known as the "Lady of the Baroque" due to the baroque bell towers, gates, churches, monuments, and houses in its historic core. The old town can be reached through Porta Napoli: from here, you can see the main streets of the city adorned with elegant 18th-century buildings. Further on, you'll find the churches of Santa Maria della Provvidenza in Piazza Baglivi and Santa Maria di Costantinopoli in Piazza Addolorata. On Via Umberto I, the 16th-century Palazzo Adorno is a must-see, as well as the Basilica di Santa Croce, the symbol of the city and Baroque Lecce. Around Piazza Sant'Oronzo, where the statue of the patron saint stands, you'll be in the heart of city life.
Delicious food is abundant in Lecce: in the restaurants of the center, there is a rich variety of land and seafood options that are characteristic of the typical cuisine of Salento. Negroamaro, Salice Salentino, and Primitivo di Manduria are just a few examples of Salento wines that possess a full body, rich color, and bold flavor.
