Excursion Etna
A wonderful excursion at the Etna, one of the best attractions of Sicily and all the Mediterranean, this excursion is the best way to discover the highest volcano in Europe, and certainly the more active!
The company that organizes the excursion is a family business, in fact the tours are conducted by the Gullo family of Linguaglossa, the gateway to the north side of Mount Etna. The family has resided in this side of Etna since 1600 and has always done work related to the activity of the volcano, passing from father to son knowledge of places and history as only those who always live on Etna can do.
The Excursions:
Etna tour: Start at 08:45 am, duration about 4.5 hours, price €65.00 per person (max 9 participants).

The excursion starts from the meeting point at 08:45 a.m. You will enter Mount Etna through one of the most original and less touristy sides of Mount Etna, the east side; From here we go beyond the 800 meters altitude and end the inhabited area. Passing through the Etna forests interspersed with lava flows, we reach the volcanic belt of Etna, an area that has a range of 1500 meters high to about 2200 meters high, in this belt there are more than 200 volcanoes around Mount Etna.
Continuing we arrive at a road that ends (all roads on Mount Etna end at about 1900 meters altitude in the middle of the belt of the volcanoes). From here there is a lot run, not too difficult and suitable for all hikers, the walk takes about an hour and we cross the endemic forest of Mount Etna while we observe several plants that are only present on this volcano. Gradually the vegetation dilutes until we arrive at the volcanic desert, from here we cross a lava flow until we reach the top of some of the most representative volcanoes of Mount Etna where you can admire one of the most spectacular landscapes, only from this side it is possible to enjoy at the same time the view of the Aeolian islands (Lipari and Salina in particular), the bay of Giardini Naxos with the Isola Bella and Taormina and the coast of Reggio Calabria (Continent).
From here after we have looked into one of these volcanoes to see the actual size, we return to the car and continue our journey to the north side of Mount Etna, theater of the last major eruption in 2002. This eruption has the tourist resort Etna North completely destroyed and also accommodation of the family Gullo that they have rebuilt. Along the lava flow of this eruption will stop to observe part of the old road Mareneve that has been surrounded by the same lava flow, to get an idea of the destruction that can cause a volcanic eruption, and a part of the Ragabo forest, the largest forest in Sicily.
Then we visit a volcanic cave, also this is one of the most representative Etna caves, because you can observe many of the lava flow signals, including the typical lava drops on the ceiling of the cave called dog teeth. From here we return via a different route to see other places and landscapes.
