We start the list with the beautiful Cagliari, the capital of the island. Really everything is beautiful about this city and during our visit we didn't know where to look. Especially the medieval past gives character to this place and immerses you completely in the Italian feeling. The historic Castello district is home to the magnificent Torre di San Pancrazio and Torre dell’Elefante. Two towers full of beauty! As far as we are concerned, you should not miss the Palazzo Viceregio and the popular fish market Mercato di San Benedetto. Also, the botanical garden 3,000 eye-popping, where you spot’s different types of flora that provide fragrant aromas. And the icing on the cake? That is really the Roman amphitheatre. ’s summer, concerts, operas and theatre performances are regularly held here, which are worth attending.

2. Nature

Sardinia has 17 nature parks in total, which means that as a nature lover, you will definitely get your money's worth here. One of our recommendations? Molentargius nature park, where pink flamingos have settled for years. The colourful birds in combination with the natural panoramas let you enjoy it to the fullest. For even more animal company, head to Giara di Gesturi. Wild horses zoom past you here! If you thought you had already seen everything, you are wrong, because the nature of Sardinia has endless beauty. La Maddalena Park with Caribbean features, Sinis Montiferru Park with ancient volcanic remains and Gorropu Gorge where you can enjoy excellent rock climbing: Sardinia continues to amaze you. Add to that the wildlife and waterfalls and the experience is complete. Waterfalls such as Sa Spendula, San Valentino and the Lecorci and Lequarci are known as real treasures of the island. Not seen enough water yet? Lake Cedrino is ideal for a boat trip. In our opinion, a real must do!

4. Castelsardo

Having a look at Castelsardo is without a doubt on the list of must-dos in Sardinia. This colorful medieval fortress town by the sea once played a role as a defensive town and tactical checkpoint. As you enter the town, you can admire its historic features. Narrow streets, steep stairs and impressive fortress walls ensure that tourists are tempted to visit every year. What couldn't we get enough of? The Doria Castle, which now serves as a museum. Right next to this castle you will find the Sant'Antonio Cathedral, a real eye-catcher with its special tiles and beautiful sea views.

5. Alghero

During a visit to Alghero you will taste plenty of Mediterranean atmospheres. This city is reminiscent of Barcelona because of its traces with the Catalan past. The modern character with historical and cultural elements makes you travel through time here. The combination of town and beach also makes you enjoy walking around here. What you will find in the city? Streets full of details of Aragonese conquerors, locals who seem to have Spanish blood and even street names in Catalan. No wonder that the Spanishish Alghero is considered one of the must-do’s in Sardinia!

6. Bosa

Colours, colours and another colours, that is how Bosa can best describe itself. The charming Bosa has managed to conquer our hearts and that is not for nothing. This town is surrounded by unspoiled nature and a beautiful coastline. Although this place has all the ingredients to allow tourists to enjoy a wonderful holiday, mass tourism is not yet found here. Nevertheless, it is always lively and cosy here, because on the attractive streets, cosy squares and in the many restaurants, locals are well represented. We couldn't let it take place and enjoy local life. And the absolute highlight? Watch the sunset from the harbour, which has kept us up to the present day.

7. Beaches

Of course, a visit to the beach is one of the must-do’s in Sardinia. This island is known for its beaches, because the white sand of the hail stands out beautifully against the azure blue water. That makes this the ideal place to enjoy the sun! Beaches such as Stintino and Cala Volpe are extremely popular, as are the beautiful Costa Smeralda with its numerous beaches. Those looking around will not only admire blue water and white sand, but also beautiful red rocks formed by the wind. Prefer to visit several beaches? Near Cala Gonone you can rent a dinghy or enjoy a day trip along the coast where there are many small-secluded beaches, such as Cala Mariolu, Cala Luna and Cala Goloritze.

8. Local dishes in Sardinia

The food in Sardinia is one of the reasons why we continue to come back to this island. As far as we are concerned, there is no better place to enjoy local food than in the agriturismo’s in Sardinia, where traditional flavours create a taste sensation in your mouth. Especially the pasta such as Culurgiones and the mini-pizzas of puff pastry are favorite, which are also known as Pizzetta Sfoglia. Also, the delicious bread, meat and fish dishes will make your mouth watering. Those who like to taste Italian cheeses do well to try Pecorino. This sheep cheese completes every dish and is no longer a reflection of the island. In combination with popular wines such as Cannonau, Vermentino and Torbato, you don't know what you're going to be.

A day out on the water? There is no better place to do this than in Sardinia! Surrounded by water, you can literally and figuratively see all sides of the house to admire beautiful places from a boat. Make a visit to Asinara and Maddalena on your list, as a boat trip is a real must do in Sardinia. Between sailing through, there is nothing finer than taking a dip in the clear blue water and enjoying the sun.

10. Sardinia and its festivals

Sardinia is always a feast, so you should not leave the island without having visited a festival. Sant’Efisio, Sa Sartiglia I Candelieri, San Simplicio and the ''Corsa degli Scalzi'' are popular festivals that you should not miss. There you can enjoy the local atmosphere and a good dose of cosiness. Love food and wine festivals? Then ''Autunno in Barbagia'', ''Calici Sotto Le Stelle'' and ''Girotonno'' are really recommended.
