Description
Hotel Mamma Santina is a small, 17 room boutique hotel in the authentic Aeolian design and style in the town of Santa Marina. An example of the hotel’s décor is the traditional Aeolian tiles that are typical of this area and have origins in the Arab domination of Sicily. The terraces and outdoors have a sea view including the islands of Stromboli, Panarea and Lipari. The colors and environment of the hotel respect the beauty of the nature in which it is nestled in.
The name of the hotel is the name of its’ founder who began cooking for the first adventurous visitors arriving on Salina in the 70s. Today its kitchen is well known and continues to offer high quality, traditional Aeolian dishes and the hotel is run and managed by the same family, the Gullos. Since its opening Mamma Santina has gone from a small family run inn to a four star hotel. The refurbishments done over the years have been executed respecting the environment through the use of ecological materials. The paints used for the walls are lime stone based and all furnishings, including the rooms, have been treated with water-based products. All water used in the hotel is heated through the hotel’s solar panels.
Many are the guests who return year after year. What they cherish is a corner of paradise that is away from trendy holiday destinations. A hotel where the staff receives them warmly, and where they are surrounded by original and natural beauty. The guests compliment the sincerity of the hospitality they receive at “Mamma Santina”.
Santa Marina, the small town Mamma Santina is in sits on a beautiful boardwalk that is reached by traditional small walkways. All of these take to the sea. In this small town or village a car is not necessary. The main street with shops is a short walk away, as is the main piazza and beaches. The beaches are of different sized stones, which have been rounded by the sea.
For those who enjoy walking, the village of Lingua is only 3 kilometers away. The walk is on the road along the sea.
