in the heart of Tuscany

Chianti

Tuscany is globally renowned as one of the most well-known areas in Italy. In the heart of Tuscany, nestled between the cities of Florence, Siena, and Arezzo, lies a small region called Chianti, known for its diverse and hilly landscape and high-quality wine production.
Chianti's stunning hilly landscape covers an area of almost twenty kilometers. The wines produced in the towns of this area are referred to as "Chianti Classico" and bear the label of the well-known Gallo Nero brand.
As you drive through this landscape, you'll see green olive trees, geometric patterns of roads lined with cypress trees, and it feels as if you're immersed in a picturesque environment. Observing this view is almost a holistic experience of the Tuscany province. Therefore, Tuscany should be explored from the heart of Chianti, allowing you to visit the surrounding villages and towns to gradually become more familiar with the region.
The roads in Chianti are well-maintained but not meant for high-speed driving. Due to the hilly landscape, it's best to drive calmly, which allows you to fully appreciate the view.
From Florence, highway 222 is a good starting point, and from Siena, you can take the Chiantigiana Vecchia to reach Chianti. It's advisable to avoid the highways leading to Florence. Along the way, many interesting sights might not be visible due to trees and hills, so making a few stops is recommended. Castles, villages, small towns, farms, churches, and Renaissance villas are built in harmony with the landscape. The best stops are in the smaller towns, where you can discover the culture of Chianti. We recommend Badia a Passignano; a charming and historic part of Chianti that's easily accessible from the Florence-Siena highway. The village of Volpaia is so beautiful that it seems like you're on a movie set. Additionally, the historical centers of Montespertoli and Monteriggioni are absolute must-visit destinations.
