Scopello and Natural Reserve of Zingaro

hidden paradise of Sicily!

Scopello and the "Zingaro" Nature Reserve - Scopello
Scopello is a small village built in the 18th century around a typical "Baglio" which, despite transforming into a vacation destination, has managed to preserve its authenticity.
It is perhaps the most charming and picturesque village on the Gulf of Castellammare. The clear water is delightful for swimming, revealing the beautiful rocky bottom and rich underwater vegetation. Wander through the streets of Scopello with the scent of jasmine that blooms until November.
Zingaro Nature Reserve
The first example of an integral nature reserve in Sicily is the Zingaro Nature Reserve, where 7 km of coastline and 1,700 hectares of pristine nature are protected. The area can only be visited on foot: nothing should disturb the tranquility of the 40 species of birds that nest here (such as the Bonelli's eagle, buzzard, red kite, kestrel) and the indigenous fauna. Many plants that grow here are rare and characteristic of this area; the trees that grow on the hills within the reserve include the carob tree, olive trees, ash trees, and plants like spurge.
The Reserve is known for its deep blue sea, peaceful coves protected by steep cliffs where hawks circle above in search of prey, and for the water rich in fish and underwater caves. But not only that; the reserve includes some peaks that reach a height of 1000 meters, and there is a cave (Uzzo) where signs of life from 8000 years ago can be found.
