ETNA

In terms of walks, Etna, is one of the most interesting places in Italy. There are several paths available. The first, not to be missed for the lover of trekking, is the one that leads to the top of the crater. It 's very easy, as is done by cable car (www.funiviaetna.com) and with the off-road but that does not make it less fascinating.When you walk on the black volcanic sand seems to be on another planet, if it were not for the sea, which appears on the horizon.
During the winter you can ski on Mount Etna (thanks to the ski slope on the south slopes and north) and excursions to the snow-shoe hiking, snow-covered lands from which they emerge through the most incredible lava formations.The walks themselves are made in the summer, with hiking boots, mountain bikes or horses. In any case it is always better to be accompanied by good guides who can lead us in the most important natural places, from the Valle del Bove (spettaccolare a rocky landscape, created by pouring thousands of years of lava flows) Gurrida Lake, to the unique caves lava, created by underground lava flow (Ente Parco Etna www.parcoetna.ct.it)

The XVI century baronial farmhouse together with its ancient wine cellar has been carefully restored. A wonderful wood surrounds the whole structure and from the swimming pool you can enjoy a splendid panoramic view of Taormina, while the peak of mount Etna is standing at your shoulders. “La Foresta del Salto del Corvo” is a farmhouse of eight hectares, with a certification for organic farming with a traditional terracing system. The main product is a class of cherries known as “Durone dell’Etna DOP”, but the farm also produces blood oranges, Clementines, plums and other fruits. At the restaurant typical Sicilian dishes are mostly prepared with the organic products from the farm. Must to visit is the Gole dell’Alcantara (18km) a canyon located in the Alcantara Valley in Sicily. Gorges are as high as 25 meters wide and 2 meters in the most narrow and widest points 4-5 meters. The particularity of this gorge is the structure of the walls, created by a flow of basaltic lava (low in silica but rich in iron, magnesium and calcium). The lava is then cooled slowly, allowing the creation of pentagonal and hexagonal prismatic shapes that recall the molecular structure of materials that constitute it.
