Multi-facetted, buzzing and surprising Gerona

Girona is the largest city in the province. This city also offers a lot of cultural attractions, art and gastronomy. Girona is perfect to take a city stroll and to relax on one of the many terraces. Pont de Pedra is one of the most important bridges in the city alongside the river Onyar. From the bridge called Pont de Pedra the Ramblas of Girona start, where you can find plenty of restaurants and cafés. At the start of this street, you can find a map of Paris. In the past, a French shop was opened although the inhabitants of Girona knew nothing of the charming French capital. Therefore a map was placed so people could learn about Paris. Today the shop is well known for its wedding dresses and the whole street has become French. There are many more sights worth a visit in the city including the cathedral with its Gothic style, the city ramparts that visitors can walk around, and the Arab bathhouses.

Jewish Neighborhood?
One of the most characteristic areas of the walled fortress Força Vella is El Call, composed of a labyrinth of small streets and inside courtyards, which has kept the medieval aura. This is one of the best-kept Jewish areas in the world and coincidentally also the largest one in Europe. The neighborhood clearly demonstrates the importance of Jewish culture in Girona.

Banyoles Lake
Banyoles Lake is located close to the city of Girona and is coincidentally also the largest in Catalonia. In 1992 it was a co-host of the Olympic games in rowing events and also the official host of the worldwide rowing championships in 2004. A walk along the Banyoles lakeside is relaxing at any moment of the day. The lake is ideal for everyone who would like to relax, go for a run, cycling, and sailing or enjoy watersports such as canoeing, rowing or waterskiing.

Montascopa Volcano
The unique aspect of this volcano is its position. Montascopa is located next to a town called Olot and is also often referred to as ‘the city’s volcano’. The best time to climb the volcano is around sunset or sunrise to enjoy views of the city and the environment. At the top there is a small church and the ruins of an old tower. From the north side of the town you can walk to the extinct volcano crater within 20 minutes.
