Description
The old part of the city of Matera (Sassi) is one of the most peculiar example of how a community found its way to survive: the houses are completely excavated in rocks. Indeed, it has become Unesco World Heritage in 1993.
When I arrived at the Bed&Breakfast in Matera 12 Lune, I was astonished. I had already seen pictures of the Sassi of Matera but I didn’t expect it to be so fascinating!
Walking along the streets I could only imagine how life in the city must have been in those days. It’s really something worth visiting at least once. This part of the town has been also used as a set for several movies because of its peculiar architecture.
The B&B 12 Lune is in the heart of the Sessi di Matera and all the rooms are reconverted to the old houses. Available also a huge room for group (up to 13 guests).
The restaurant serves typical dishes from the tradition of Lucania.
